1920 Leipzig (Saxony), Germany
20 Pfennig Straßenbahn (Tramway) Notgeld Token
Composition: Cardboard
Diameter: Approx. 24.5 mm
Offered here is an original 1920 Leipzig 20 Pfennig cardboard Notgeld transit token issued by the Straßenbahn (tramway) company during the early Weimar Republic period.
These emergency issues (Notgeld) were produced due to coin shortages following World War I. Unlike most metal Notgeld pieces, this example is made of cardboard, making it a unique and fragile survival from the era.
Obverse: "STRASSENBAHN 20 LEIPZIG"
Reverse: Decorative city-style emblem design
Used locally for tramway transportation in Leipzig
Condition appears very solid for cardboard — strong details, intact edges, no major warping. Please review photos carefully for exact condition.
A great piece of German hyperinflation-era history and an excellent addition to any Notgeld, transportation, or Weimar Republic collection.
Ships securely and well protected.
